This book was made into a successful movie. Has an exotic setting on a small Greek island. Boston Globe says: "A compelling portrait of a schemer whose shabby amorality scarcely ensures his survival in a world where treatery is the rule." While Cleveland Plain Dealer say: "Unsworth is a superb storyteller.. The compact, neatly plotted story developes considerable suspense and comes to a crashing climax." And lastly the New Yorker says: "Darkly ironic... offers an almost Conradian richness."
