Char(short for Charlotte) isn't just a vampire, she's a Nighthawk-an Enforcer who is supposed to be meaner, tougher all around more of a bad-ass than ordinary vampires, because Enforcers are vampire cops, reborn to enforce the Laws of the Blood. But Char is a complete newbie, and worse she's a bookish romantic. But now she has not just one tough assignment, but two: she has to kill a mortal vampire hunter who is getting too close to the truth, and find a fledgling vampire who has been kidnapped by a sorcerer with a demon accomplice who are killing psychics and who are likely to destroy all of Seattle in their quest for immortality. To make things even worse a very old Law forbids Char from harming demons. But nothing says a hot, sexy, snake-mean and tough as nails mortal vampire hunter can't do that part for her.
