This is the third in Anne Perry's "Charlotte and Thomas Pitt" series set in Victorian London. The books read like novels of manners crossed with police procedurals. Perry has a wonderful grasp of the Victorian mindset and character and is skilled at revealing the hypocrisies of the upper classes.
In this installment, police Inspector Thomas Pitt investigates the rape and murder of a society girl from the elegant Paragon Walk neighborhood. His well-born wife, Charlotte, and Charlotte's sister, Emily, do some sleuthing of their own and discover something ugly is going on in the Walk, something that could lead to more deaths and even put them in danger.
The book is worth a read if you like the series but is not as good as the first two. I was intrigued by many of the characters and wanted to learn all their secrets, but the ending let me down. Still, no one brings to life the dysfunctions of Victorian society quite like Perry.

Murder investigation. It's a who dunnit historical. Very Good.
This is an early Perry book and one of her best.
Another Thomas and Charlotte Pitt Victorian mystery set in London in the 1800's. Anne Perry makes you see London how it was during that time period - life among the upper and lower classes - involving love and murder.
In the posh London street of Paragon Walk, an unspeakable and baffling crime was committed: a young woman was brutally raped and murdered.
Once again the incomparable team of sleuths, Inspector Thomas Pitt and his young wife, Charlotte, set themselves against a vicious murderer. As the elegant masks of the wel born suspects began to slip, it became appallingly clear that something ugly lurked behind the handsome facades of Paragon Walk--something that could lead to more scandal, and more murder...

Don't miss the 3rd book of the Pitt's.

This is the 3rd book in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series written by Anne Perry. The setting is London 1880's and a young woman has been raped and murdered on Paragon Walk. Tom, Charlotte and her sister, Emily, help to solve the crime. Anne Perry shows us the difference between the lower class and the quirks of the Victorian society expertly. Her books are quick easy reads and are a very interesting time period to read about.
