I had somehow managed to miss this title, until I read QUICKSAND, Iris Johansen's newest release featuring Eve Duncan. Megan Blair plays a small role in that book, so I searched out PANDORA'S DAUGHTER to get her story. I'm glad I did.

Megan is a doctor who feels empathy for her patients that's beyond normal. When she finds out that a real bad guy named Molino is after her, her world comes crashing down. There are revelations about her Uncle Phillip, memories of her mother's death, and the arrival of Neal Grady, a man who may hold the key to the powers that Megan has.

This was a good, quick read that I really enjoyed. I also like stories that revolve around the paranormal, so this fit right in. I'd love to see more books featuring Megan and Grady (who is a force to be reckoned with!), along with Jed Harley and Renata, two other characters introduced in PANDORA'S DAUGHTER.

Pandora's Daughter & Stalemate are so similar to her other books I had to keep checking if I had already read it. I love recurring characters but would like different stories. She is putting the same scenes in her books again & again. How many times can she have a male character tell a female how how he is for her and how much he wants her as the world around them is chaotic? I put down PD a third of the way through it because it was as if I had read it already, just as Stalemate was the same story again. I won't be in a hurry to pick her books up unless they're at a library sale cheap. Too costly to buy a book you've "already read" and put it down.

I love Iris Johansen and she did not let me down with this book. She makes you feel for the characters and the story line keeps you entertained til the end. It's got a bit of mystery and adventure with some paranormal psychic spun in. Definitely a must read.

A wonderful book. My first Iris Johansen and I am looking for more. This book has suspense and great characterization. You won't want to put it down.

Megan Blair has heard "voices" since she was a little girl, but when her mother is murdered when Megan is 15, a family "uncle" takes her in and the voices seem to disappear. As an adult, she is now a physician in the ER, but has trouble blocking out her extreme emotions concerning her patients. After being run off the road and narrowly missing death, an old childhood friend, Neal Grady, comes into her life. Megan finds out she is a descendant of a family of psychics reaching back to the middle ages who are constantly being hunted (for the lack of a better word) by people who either think psychics are "freaks," or who want to use their psychic powers for their own devices/evil. Megan also finds out her mother was a "Pandora" psychic who killed a man that was beating and gang-raping her. Now she is in the fight for her life as the brother of the murdered man has been searching and found Megan for revenge.

While I like the premise of this book, with the psychic skills (it has potential to be refreshing and new), it falls seriously flat. A romance between Megan and Neal develops and really has no business being in the book, as it serves no purpose. The constant referring to psychics as "freaks" becomes redundant and frustrating to the reader. The psychic powers that are touched on and used could have been honed and featured more, yet they are only touched on, so what exactly is the point? All-in-all, a waste of time for me, but I could see how women who enjoy romance novels with a tinge of danger would find this an entertaining read.

A light, fun read that is both a mystery and a romance. I particularly enjoyed the discussion about the Pandora myth: "...Pandora was given gifts from all the gods and that's why her name was Pandora, which means all gifts. Hermes gave her cunning, boldness and charm. Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo gave her musical ability and the power of healing. Hera gave her curiosity. The Zeus threw in mischief and foolishness." There is more discussion but this give you an idea of how it flows. Good read.
