Eric Carle is a classic children's illustrator, and the text of this book introduces children to many endangered species. Because of the animal names though, the meter doesn't quite fit the rhyme, which bothers this English major.
Terrific!
After the masterpiece that is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear..." I had high expectations for this book! However I believe that the author has run out of ideas and is just rehashing his previous works with new pictures. Also the dream sequence revelation at the end of the book, while certainly a plot twist of unexpected proportions, did not really fit with the flow of the book, and I fear will simply confuse the readers this book is aimed towards.

The Bill Martin / Eric Carle books are wonderful. These were a favorite for my children and for me to read.
Illustrated by Eric Carle.
