I really enjoyed this book! The recurring main character in Mr. Gash's book is named Lovejoy (remember the show on A&E?) Lovejoy is in the antiques trade in East Anglia (the UK). He is known in the trade as a "divvy"....someone who knows a real antique by instinct. That is not to say he doesn't know his stuff where antiques are concerned. As a matter of fact, it is his love, knowledge and abilities regarding antiques that get him into trouble (not to mention his own personal moral compass). Consequently, many crooks would like to have Lovejoy working for them.
This story takes him to the continent, where a major antiques scam is in the works. The people involved are very dangerous. A couple of Lovejoy's harmless friends in the trade have died mysteriously, soon after coming into contact with one of the new business owners in East Anglia. Lovejoy investigates and finds his ex-wife, one of his female playmates, and several important people in East Anglia are investors in the scam. As a result of pleading by his friends(?), he gets dragged into the scheme to save them from their own greed and financial ruin. But it's not all hard work. A few "birds" help sweeten the experience with a romp or two whenever Lovejoy loses his focus.
It's a fun read!
