The author is taking a bit of a break from his standard one book per decade and this book covers 1940 to the end of World War II.
It opens before United States entry into the war and ends with the trials at Nuremburg.
The characters that weve met in previous books are pretty much all here. John Canfield is still working for FDR but his brother Willie has joined the Army Air Corp as a general. Shaylin McKay is working as a reporting on the war front. Karl Tannenhower is now one of those in Hitlers inner circle. The Gelbmans, David and his wife Anna, have been sent to a concentration camp, but their daughter Miriam and cousin Simon have made a daring escape from the Nazis.
Vaughan covers almost every aspect of World War II. We follow a Japanese family and a German family (the Tannehowers) on the Axis side of the war. We follow characters in the Pacific, China-Burman, Africa, Russia and European front. We also meet Tuskegee Airmen. The only aspect of World War II that we dont follow is battles in Italy.
Once again, another well-written historical story about life in America.
