My son's name is Owen. It is surprisingly not that common. So he likes the series in general because the boy is Owen. He had just started soccer season when we were reading this so he enjoyed it. The concept raised in this book is "Loyalty" this was good because we've not really dealt with this concept much in other books we've read. (We get lying and embarrasment and work ethic as a theme a lot.)
If you don't have experience with the Owen Foote series these are similar to Junie B (not as funny) or Jigsaw Jones where it is a chapter book of apprx 60-70 pages where the problem is apparent and resolved. Our library calls it "Jr. Chapter".
