I loved the book, but it read a little slow through at least halfway through the book. Interesting but slow. But after the halfway mark it really picks up the pace and has that edge of the seat excitement I got from the other Alex Delaware novels I've read.
Really intriguing book with the main character of Alex Delaware the child psychologist working with gifted or very gifted children and the problems of one years later. Brings in lots of family problems in rich family with gifted nephew and what family history and business has to do with him. Alex's police detective friend Milo Sturgis is very helpful to solving the case after young gifted boy is charged with murder and psychotic problems. Good read and very interesting. One of Jonathan Kellerman's first three books.
I think this was the first Alex Delaware novel of Jonathan Kellerman's that I read, and it kept me reading. A call from a former patient, a young man, to child psychologist Alex Delaware begins a middle-of-the-night drive into madness and murder and secrets...three things that make this a suspenseful and memorable book.

I love mystery and suspense so this one is great. The characters are different than the traditional a detective and a psycologist. My only suggestion would be to read them in order because their personal lives evolves in each book
Alex Delaware gets a phone call from a former patient, a young troubled genius who suffered a devastating mental collapse. Alex drives through the night to save his life and winds up in a morass of murder. He uncovers the secret life of one of California's leading families, and is witness to an explosion of murderous passions and shattering revelations.

Intricately plotted thriller with child psychologist Alex Delaware attempting to prove that a former patient is not the psycopathic slayer of several young men. Flawed somewhat by a climatic scene which includes an unlikely happenstance with one of the suspects combined with an unbelievable non-response by police interrogators.
