For the first time in her life, meek spinster Emma Colby develops a backbone. Despite the townspeople's concerned opinions, Emma decides to start a hospital. Soon enough she has a full house with an unwed mother, a child with chicken pox, a spoiled baby sister out to convince Emma to be her slave, and an outlaw thinly disguised as a gentleman gambler!

John Archibald (aka bank robber Lang Tupper) cant help falling in love with Emmas kind-heartedness, generosity and spirit. He decides to stay for a short time and help her build her farm and hospital.

Romance blossoms between the two lonely hearts. The greatest threat to their happiness is not the discovery of Langs true identity but a greedy, conniving sheriff who blackmails Emma into an engagement in order to get his hands on her fortune.
