An autobiography by Ossie Guffy, covering the first 30 years of her life, from 1931 through about 1961. Written in the most authentic voice, this book really gave me insight into the everyday lives of Black Americans during this time period. Ossie's life was a tough one, full of hardship and heartbreak and she puts it down here in the most unadorned style, telling her story of life and how you keep on keeping on and the lessons learned along the way. I would love to know what became of Ossie and what the rest of her life looked like. An eye-opening look at a time in our recent past told from a perspective that is down to earth and rings entirely true.
