An interesting look at life in Manhattan during the mid/late-17th century, plus the addition of a boogeyman of sorts. Macabre due to the nature of the evil, the overarching story is interesting and enjoyable.

Not one I'd recommend widely as the subject matter depicts the brutal killing of small children. So, not one for anyone too sensitive. But anyone looking for a decent horror story mixed with a quasi-historical fiction tale would enjoy this.

A wonderful debut novel. A fully original period piece set in late 17th century New Amsterdam, The Orphanmaster is a well-researched thriller about the disappearance and murder of orphans in the Dutch colony. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
