In high school and/or college, history was NEVER a subject I liked. Even hated going to historical places as part of a vacation (I was young and with family, had to go!). If we had had to read books like this, I could have enjoyed the subject and learned things at the same time! Great story about orphaned, abandoned and homeless children in the US between 1854 - 1929 and the trains that transported them to the Midwest for 'adoption'. The story follows a first generation Irish immigrant. How she ended up on the train and what happens to her after the ride. I never knew orphan trains existed, but now I do know and I won't forget!
