Of course The Opposite of Me was on my TBR list, as Ive been anticipating this book for months. To be more particular: Ive been waiting almost a year. It was after a book signing last summer that LibraryLove and I met Planetbooks who turned us on to up-and-coming breakout author, Sarah Pekkanen. And I was honored enough to be able to borrow LibraryLoves very own autographed-by-Sarah copy of this debut novel!

Im not sure if it was the fact that I had such high expectations, that I am an only child and dont share that sibling bond with anyone (though my best friends FEEL like sisters I never had), or a culmination of those facts and how busy I was during the time I read this book. But I found myself disappointed until the end. I didnt feel the characters had a lot of depth to them and I found myself annoyed at Lindsays self-centerdness and insecurity regarding boys. I wanted to love this book as much as my friends have but it just wasnt happening for me. The story didnt resonate with me or speak to me and I couldnt relate to any of it. Maybe thats why.

But then, about 3/4 through the book, my experience with these characters changed. It almost felt like I was reading a different story entirely. There was depth to the characters, there was compassion, love, commitment and struggle among family. It was wonderful to watch the sisters relationship change and develop. I believe the reason I enjoyed the last part of the book is because its a topic I have double-experience with. (I cant say what it is because I dont want to give anything away) But it pulled on my heart strings and it was at THAT part that I couldnt put the book down. I feel disappointed it took that long to get to that part in the book, but I look forward to seeing what Sarah does next!

I couldn't put this book down. What a fun read! I enjoyed the humor. The book starts out with a frantic Lindsey getting ready for her big presentation. The author does a fantastic job of conveying the hectic and stressful lifestyle Lindsey lives. I enjoyed Lindsey's journey of self discovery and relationship development. Definately read it!!

A book that begins as a story that centers around fraternal twins who have always had a place in their family set in stone, but through some ups and downs these twins are having to find out how to both change and still find their place.

I think this kind of sibling rivalry happens in all kinds of siblings from fraternal twins to identical twins to siblings of different ages. My sister and I serve different roles in our family - she is the creative and big picture one and I am the organized detail oriented person. I can't imagine if our roles were reversed for one reason or another and how we would all have to shift and change to make a new normal.

My favorite part of this book was thinking that it was headed in a certain direction and at a drop of a hat, the author takes it to a whole nother level. As always, I can not divulge what takes the book to the next level because this is one that must be picked up on your next trip to a bookstore (preferably an indie bookstore!).
