Willow Rose is an author born in Denmark who writes about her home country of 5.5 million. This is the first book (of ten, see below), and Rebekka Franck is a journalist. She was a hot-shot reporter but gave it all up to return to her father's home. She and her six-year-old daughter are hiding out from her husband, Peter.

After tours in Iraq, Peter changed and became volatile. After he locked Rebekka and their daughter in the basement for a week, Rebekka knew she (and her daughter) needed to leave. Rebekka has taken a job in a small newspaper, where nothing ever happens. Then, however, in rapid succession, two horrible murders occur. Rebekka realizes that the murders are related, but the police want no part of that idea (no one wants to admit that a serial killer is in Denmark).

Amazingly, the author states that 96% of the murder cases in Denmark are solved. This is a quickly-paced mystery that is most enjoyable.
