On Midsummr's Eve 3 role-playing teens in 18th century garb are shot in a secluded Swedish meadow. When one of Inspector Wallander's most trusted colleagues also turns up dead her knows the murders are related. Intricate & intelligent.
Excellent writer, great series. Mankell looks at the very dark side of Swedish society. Wallander, the hero of these policiers, is a smart guy with family and health issues. A few of the books were filmed with Kenneth Branagh in the role for the BBC (I think).
This was my favorite of the Wallendar series so far. The death of a co-worker and Wallander's health issues bring more emotion and introspection than usual. I do suggest reading these books in order. One of the best crime series out there.
Extremely clever plot that will keep you guessing. Mankell never disappoints!
Perceptive, Swedish procedurals featuring a determined, brilliant detective Kurt Wallender. The murders of three college students and the suspicious death of a secretive colleague leads this maverick, unorthodox detective to meticulously strip away layer after layer of clues in order to determine the madman's next target and prevent another horrific crime from taking place.

This one is a stunner.
This series and Mankell's writing are always top shelf but this one is over the top excellent.
The quick pace and the way Wallander's mind works is a joy to read.
Working with is team is practically seamless and fun to read.
Twists and turns and U turns make this a I can't put this down kinda book.
Best by far.

Kurt Wallander is battling a newly discovered health problem while trying to solve the worst serial murder case he has ever encountered. As always, characters are well drawn and extremely real. It is not hard to imagine knowing these people. Highly recommended.
Mankell never disappoints, but this one tops even the high bar he normally sets. Couldn't put it down.
Good story but you have to get used to a foreign country.
