You think you know who the serial killer is in "THE ONE I LEFT BEHIND" but Jennifer McMahon throws in so many unpredictable twists and turns that you really don't know until almost the end of the story.

This was a really good read. The story shifts from present day to 25 years ago and is told from the viewpoint of a young girl whose mother was the last person taken by Neptune - a serial killer. Her body was never found and now, 25 years later, she shows up alive.

You will probably not be able to turn the pages fast enough on this one.

I always love a who dun it, especially when it combines a past plotline with a current plotline, but this book went a little too much overboard. There were a few elements that maybe took the story a little too far and towards the end there were too many possible suspects. A wonderful addition between the two plotlines was excerpts of an investigative book which provided the readers with details of the killings that maybe the main character or other characters couldn't provide - this added so much to the story.

I'm always up for a Jennifer McMahon book! This one has the same patterns as several of her other ones -- dual timeline, alternating between 1980s and present day (well, 2010), and a trio of kids who are determined to solve a mystery. This one didn't have a strong paranormal thread in it, which I missed. That's the main reason I love her other books. I enjoyed the story and loved the characters, plus the descriptions of the cool house Monique's Wish made me envision the story so vividly.

This is a good mystery with some unique characters. There are 2 story lines playing out, one in 1985 when the serial murders took place and our protagonist, Reggie, is 13 years old. Then 25 years later as unexpected events occur that bring Reggie back to her home. I really thought I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong. It is well written, though I did have a couple of issues I didn't feel were resolved, but overall a good mystery and a page turner.

If you're looking for a good "whodunit", try this one. What made this book so captivating for me was the fact that almost anyone could have been the murderer. I couldn't rest until I figured out who it was! At times I thought things could have moved along a little faster, but all in all, the story was well told. The character I at one point thought was the killer I think would have been better than who it actually turned out to be, but oh well. This won't be the last book I read by McMahon :)
