This novel takes an original "what if" and runs with it, with the rest of the story just like our actual world. It's a humorous, engaging, unpredictable and enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this book. I did not know what to expect and it had twists and turns all over the place. It kept me quite engaged!
The One by John Marrs asks a question. Would you take a test that would identify the person you are meant to spend your life with? Two things make this such a fun book to read. The first is that there are surprises. Some of the plot twists I can see coming, but some catch me off guard. The second is that the book does not answer the question. It takes the reader along for what proves to be a quick, page-turning ride.

This book is a hard one for me to rate. It was quite a struggle for me to get through. In the end Marrs proves (as in his other books I have read) to be a clever and imaginative writer, though maybe a bit deranged, as well? (I mean that in a good way, of course.) However, I didn't really like any of the characters much. I don't read romance and the details of sexual attraction (particularly between two gay men) was not something I care to read. I have nothing against being gay, I just don't want to read about the romantic details. I felt this was such an interesting premise but it wasn't quite what I expected in execution. The narration was mostly good. I can see where many readers of psychological thrillers would truly enjoy this book. I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy it.
