I have been anxiously awaiting the release of One Foot in the Grave since the moment I finished the first book in the Night Huntress Series --Halfway to the Grave -- in October. My hope was that the sequel (One Foot in the Grave) would be every bit as good as the original. Guess what? It's even better!
The witty sarcastic tone of the first book (along with Cat's hilarious inner banter) is even more honed than before. This book retains the perfect balance of romance, suspense, action, and humor that made book one such a joy to read (and re-read.) The humor is funnier, the romance is sexier, the action is more edgy, and --as unbelievable as it seems-- Bones is even hotter. I would be lying if I said I weren't grinning like an idiot throughout much of my marathon read today.
The main characters have evolved without changing the core of who they are. I was pleased at the presence nods to some of the characters from book one, and there were new characters that quickly become important to the reader, (which I hope to see again in book 3, At Grave's End)
All in all, it was everything I hoped it would be, and more. There is no doubt that Jeaniene Frost is comfortably finding her place amongst the most talented authors in the genre, and I expect to see many more great things from her.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll just order takeout for dinner and curl up for a reread of my new favorite book.

I was excited to read the sequel to Halfway to the Grave, and I wasn't disappointed. Although, I do think that the first book was better. This book starts off four years after the last book ended. Cat has lost all contact with Bones as she had planned, and she is now an FBI agent. She's in trouble now with an assassin on her tail, and Bones is the only one that can help her. It was good to see Bones back, and as much in love with Cat as a Vamp can be. And let me just say, why don't I have bones in my bedroom? He's just too sexy for words. He reminds me of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's quick, funny, and always has a smart ass remark. Cat also has a very sharp tongue, so anyone who gets in her way better watch out. Plus, she can throw a knife like no one's business! Now, that's a girl I can admire.
I liked the new characters that Jeaniene added. They are loyal to Cat and trust her so much, that they will do whatever she says. I loved how everything just started unraveling towards the end. All the pieces started falling into place, and it was exciting to read.
I was a little (I mean just a smidgen!) dissatisfied with the ending, but I don't want to post any spoilers. I'll just say that sometimes people are better off dead. Even though I can't help but like a happy ending. If you like action, there were some really fantastic fight scenes in this book. If you like romance and sex, same deal.
A good sequel and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. It's also spending its third week in a row on the USA Today, NYT, and Borders best seller list! With that let's all applaud Jeaniene on a novel well done!

I was roaming around the book store and came across this book. I took a chance buying book 2 in a series that I knew nothing about. Boy was I glad I found it.
I found Cat's inner banter and witty sarcastic tone uplifting and funny. It make you feel like Cat's a real person more real to life then most characters in books. Anyone who really doesn't want to read the erotic paranormal books there's one scene in this book and it's not a whole lot of detail.
Looking forward to reading book 3 At Graves End.

This series just keeps getting better. It's a few years after the first story, Kat is now a kick-ass government agent, with a contract on her head. The only one that can really protect her is the lover she left behind--Bones. I read this book in one day--could not put it down! It is one of the best paranormal romances I have come across in a while. The characters are well drawn, the story line captivating and action packed. It's a love story but it's not bogged down with a lot of unexpected sex scenes. Just a well rounded story. Highly recommended!

Without giving away what happens in book 2, all I can say is....
Cat was taken from Bones, well they are together again in book 2. people want Cat dead and Bones has a big problem with that and he will do whatever it takes to protect his lady love. but don't think Cat is helpless in all of this, she still kicks major butt.
I love the Night Huntress series. Before I cracked open the book I thought, "Am I really going to like this, it sounds corny." Boy was I wrong. I couldn't read it fast enough. I suggest starting with book 1 and having the other 3 ready to go before you start the series. You aren't going to want to what for the next one.

Read this one right after the first one (order matters! I thought this one was the first one a while back and as a consequence, this book made no sense. Reading in the right order fixed that).
The good: familiar characters, more fighting with powerful vamps, a better peek into the characters
The bad: oh, the whining about how Spike (errr...I mean Bones!) is gone...gone...gone. It was terribly tedious. As was the whole "my mother doesn't want me dating a vampire" angle.
The reunion between the characters was good, but I confess to losing interest about 50 pages from the end.

I liked the first one but this one is much better in my opinion. I know a lot of people would put this book in the paranormal romance category but I think it's one of those books that really belong to both romance and fantasy genre. Cat doesn't really meet back up with Bones until about 1/3 of the book.
I love the banter and immaturity of the characters. It's like meeting up with your really good high school friends again. A lot of getting on each others' nerves and laughing at each others' expense. Lot so bad language and explicit sex but fun, fun, fun.
As with all the books in the series, I have a hard time that some of the side characters aren't as developed and are basic caricature of the ethnic culture they are. But I still think it's a great read.

A five star book for me. Wow! This sequel to Halfway to the Grave is even better than the first book which was a great book. This is easily one of my favorite books.
Cat is back. Darker, stronger, the head of a government paranormal agency who is still in love with Bones, the sexy lethal master vampire who trained her. Bones finds her though four years have passed since she left him in order to protect him. He wants her back, but part of his past comes back to tear things between them. The author could so easily have done the Big Misunderstanding throughout most of the book and kept them apart, but she didn't. She's a great writer who doesn't resort to cliched plot devices.
This book is even better than Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Bk 1). It's fast moving with nonstop paranormal activities. It's also absolutely hilarious. Both Bones and Cat have very funny quips. The author introduces several interesting secondary characters. The complexity of the Night Huntress world grows. Don't even get me started on entire Chapter 32. The infamous Chapter 32 had me fanning myself. If you don't like sex scenes then Chapter 32 isn't for you, but Bones can Chapter 32 me anytime he wants.
This vampire series is one my favorites. After I finished all the Black Dagger Brotherhood series books by JR Ward, I thought nothing could surpass my love for those vampires, but Bones and Cat have. Bones is one delicious alpha male hero, but without all the angst and arrogance others in this genre have. His wicked sense of humor is a thing of beauty. I can't tell you how often I laughed at some of his comments.
Do yourself a favor if you're a fan of the first book. Get this one and read it all the way through. Don't skip ahead to the aforementioned chapter, but when you get there, make sure you have a couple of cold drinks to cool you off. You'll need it.

Jeaniene Frost is one of those rare authors that can do everything. Her characters are real and engaging. Her stories are action-packed with great world-building and suspense. And her character dialogue is some of the wittiest and most laugh-out-loud funny of any I've encountered.
All of these gold standards come together seamlessly once again in One Foot in the Grave, the second in Frost's addictive Night Huntress series. The story picks up four years after the end of Halfway to the Grave. Half-breed vampire hunter Cat Crawfield has left her rogue hunter days behind her in favor of a gig leading a black ops team of FBI agents tracking supernatural threats for the government. Unfortunately, Cat also left behind her Master Vampire boyfriend Bones -- and still can't seem to get over him. Her partner Tate is more than willing to be her partner in other ways, and nice-guy vet, Noah, even promises hope for a normal future.
A normal future becomes a pipe dream for Cat once again, however, when she attracts the attention of a very powerful -- and dangerous -- vampire, as well as legions of paranormal hit men trying to track down the Red Reaper -- Cat's former identity. But when she unexpectedly crosses paths with Bones again, her old life and her new intertwine in surprising new ways.
I love the Night Huntress books -- it's honestly hard not to gush. This book lost none of the steam built in the debut novel, and Cat's new vocation and friends bring new life to the story. The key characters continue to be the showstoppers, though. Bones, in particular, is one of the most drool-worthy characters in fiction. As a former fan "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," I wonder if Ms. Frost had Spike in mind when she conceived the delectable Bones. On every page, he's devilishly funny and as spicy as Tabasco.
To sum it up, it's imperative to have the next book in the series on hand when you finish One Foot in the Grave. Trust me, you won't want to wait for what's waiting At Grave's End.

I'm on page 224 of 357 of One Foot in the Grave: I'm not sure what all the hype is about Bones! I don't know if I'm just distracted or bored with this book. Just can't seem to care either way.
Well I certainly must recant that statement. Definitely must have been distracted! I have four 6 week old kittens and they've been crawling all over me for weeks now...aww love of the cuddly type.
Anyway, I can now see the attraction to Bones. He is an amazing vampire with a surprisingly strong love for Cat; apparently from the get-go too. This book started out slowly but I now know that was because Bones wasn't part of it. Cat is up to her neck in vampires and ghouls in this one. Her own people (the FBI spook squad) don't trust her and her vampire lover. After all, they are vampire killers and don't like her fraternizing with the enemy. I loved the outcome and can't wait for the next installment to see what she gets her people to try next. I'm wishing I could get this on audio since I'd love to hear Bones speak. I'm a sucker for a British accent (and Scottish and Australian too!).

Last month I read book one in the Night Huntress series and in my review I stated that it took me 200 pages before I even cared about any of the characters. When I picked up book two I could not put it down and read it in less than 24 hours (including sleep). The way Cat talks sometimes is like nails on a chalkboard but I love the chemistry she has with Bones. What can I say, it caught me off guard to actually laugh out loud in parts and I ended up really like it. I can't wait to get book three in my hands.

This is certainly one of the best series I've read in a long time. Humor, sex, vampires, special forces, action. Cat is the newer, better, Buffy; a Buffy for grown ups! Ms Frost can write dialogue like she's a stenographer simply taking notes. Everything is pretty believable and yet so imaginitive I can't believe she's come up with 1/2 of it. This is a series not to be missed. I'm ordering the last 2 now!

While not quite as good as the first one, One Foot in the Grave was a very good read. The story begins four years after the first book and Cat is working for the government, killing and/or capturing vamps. I was dismayed that so much time had past, but very happy when Cat and Bones were reunited. I think they are an amazing couple and the author does a great job with their relationship. I don't surprise easily when it comes to sex scenes. However, the one instance where Cat tells Bones to do his worst; OMG! It was one of the most sensually erotic scenes I have ever read. The things he does to her! Even though nothing was overly descriptive or explicit, it was still a shock to my system. There are a lot of emotional upheavals, not just with Cat and Bones, but with many of the supporting characters. The story didn't have any real closure, so I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
great series!
Cat and Bones are back again in book 2 of the Night Huntress Series. This book is a bit different from the first book as now Cat works for homeland security tracking and killing vampires. Bones catches up with her and they work through problems like Bones sire now wants Cat for his own! This is a great read, alot of action, some romance, and new characters you can't help but like.

Four years ago, Cat abandoned her lover Bones, as well as her former life to join a secret branch of the U.S. government that was formed to hunt vampires. She did it thinking it was the only way she'd be able to save Bones from the men that were threatening her.
Now, however, she's facing Bones' sire Ian, as well as a contract on her life, when Bones suddenly reappears in her life. She is overjoyed to see him, but she knows it still won't work. Or will it?
In the second book to the Night Huntress series, we get a lot more Cat and Bones action, more fighting, and some awesome new characters, in Don, Juan, Tate, Denise, and Annette. We also get to see more into the vampire world with glimpses of Ian, Spade, and Mencheres.
I love this book, and honestly, I think it's my favorite of the whole series. It's the only copy I have of the series that's literally falling apart with how many times I've read this.
This book is where we really get to see how Cat and Bones feel about each other, and heh, there's one certain scene where it's really obvious. If you don't know what I'm talking about, pick up the book. You won't regret it, if just for that scene. ;)
We also get to meet what will become some key characters in later books. Don is the head of the governmental operation that Cat is the main "fighter" for. Tate is one of the men who follows her, who also happens to be in love with her, and Juan is another one of the followers, who is obsessed with women (this is not an overstatement. He's really that obsessed). Annette is one of the first vampires Bones ever changed, and Denise is Cat's best friend.
This book picks up in an interesting spot, because when I picked up the book, I thought it would pick up immediately after the last book ended, but it doesn't; it picks up four years later. Which in truth, is a very good thing, since it develops the characters, as well as the scenes more.
All in all, as I said, this is my favorite book of the series. If you haven't read the series, pick up the first book, and be prepared for the magnificent sequel.

I loved this book just as much as I loved the first one, Halfway to the Grave! I couldn't put it down..and finished it within a day. I can't wait till the third book comes out, in fact, I'm anticipating it big time. I will definetly be purchasing that one as soon as it hits the shelves.
Our half-vampire Cat has been working as a vampire-killer for a covert group since she cut off all ties with her vampire lover in the previous book. Of course, she still loves him, and when he finally tracks her down, struggles against the urge to renew their relationship while believing his association with her threatens his existence. When her boss and team find out, their trust in her is shaken, which makes it all the more difficult to combat the mercenaries who are out to kill her for the price on her head. And when she discovers the secrets her employer has kept from her, even more chaos ensues. This second book is action-packed and filled with enough romantic angst for the reader who thirsts for it, but for me it skirts dangerously close to the edge of cheesy at times. Still, despite the extended gratuitous sex scene at the end which really felt overdone and irrelevant, on the whole the book is entertaining and still leaves me curious enough about the characters to read the next installment.
First, not nearly as much sex as the first book but still far too graphic, in my opinion, for young people. More vampire politics and intrigue but far less action and battles than the first book. Interesting ending.

I loved this entire series of books. They are fast paced and I love all of the characters. I couldn't stop reading. I am glad that I didn't become aware of these books until most of them were already published because I would have hated waiting for a new one to come out.
Not quite as good as the first, but still a powerful and compelling story. We learn more about Cat and Bones returns. I don't want to give it away but it works. All except the bit at the end between them which seems a bit far fetched.
Vampire hierarchy is explored in some depth and we learn how ghouls are created.
A very funny bit when Cat runs across one of Bones' ex-lovers.
I will definitely read the next!

Cat Crawfield is now a Special Agent working for the government to capture and/or kill vampires. But when she is targeted for assassination, the only person who can help her is Bones, the vamp she left behind.
This is an incredible sequel, just as good as the original. There is lots of humor, hot romance, and action. You learn about the vampire hierarchy and how ghouls are created. There are several new interesting characters, along with characters from the previous book. I highly recommend this series. My rating: 5 Stars.

This is the second book in the Night Huntress series by Frost, the sixth book (One Grave at a Time) is due out Sept 2011. This book was just as good, if not better than, the first book in this series. Cat and Bones are fantastic together and it is wonderful to see Cat as a power in her own right. I listened to this book on audio book and the audio book is really well done. In fact this is one of those books I would recommend listening too; the narrator gets Bones' voice spot on and does an excellent job with Cat too.
This book starts 4 years after the first book ended. Cat is working for a special vampire hunting division of the FBI. She has her own team of human vampire hunters under her command. Cat is known only by the nickname the Red Reaper in vampire circles. Now someone has found out her identity and is out to kill her. Who will help her figure out who is out to get her? Well after all these long years of separation Bones may be just the vampire Cat needs to hunt down the person trying to assassinate her.
Cat and Bones were awesome together in the first book, but they are about ten times more awesome in this book. The reunion of Cat and Bones was absolutely outstanding and just took my breath away. Both of them are funny, sincere, and absolutely engrossing as characters. It was fun to see Cat hold her own in fights and to watch her finally admit how much she cares about Bones. Bones is absolutely everything you could want in a male lead and them some; he is funny, sincere, witty and just absolutely wonderful.
Cat finally has some friends in this book and it was great to see her hanging out with her girlfriend and joking around with her FBI team. It was nice to see she had a great support group and that her whole life wasn't hinged on her relationship with Bones. Cat seems to be finally gaining some balance in her life and her relationship with Bones is so loving that it is fun and heartwarming to read about. There are also a couple very steamy scenes between Cat and Bones that are exceedingly well written, very creative, and very...well...steamy.
It's not all about Cat and Bones though; we meet some great new characters. The plot is well done and I love how parts of the story from the first book are tied into this book as well. The action scenes are really well done and there are plenty of them. Things are set up nicely for the next book, At Grave's End, and I can't wait to read that one too.
Overall a absolutely stellar addition to this series. Cat and Bones make this series fabulous; the are so funny, witty, caring, and just fantastic as a couple. Not only are there wonderful, creative steam scenes between them throughout; they honestly seem to really care about each other. In addition to that the book is very well written, has an excellent and engaging plot, spectacular action scenes, and wonderful new characters. Really there isn't anything here that I don't like. Fans of the Anita Blake series, who have been turned off by the turn the later books in the series have taken, should definitely check out this Night Huntress series. I absolutely adore this series.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Cat finally meets her father and her intention to kill him is stronger than ever, so I expect we will see more of this storyline in future books. After four years apart, Bones and Cat still have the chemistry that brought them together in the first book. I wasn't sure I would enjoy the storyline of Cat's para-military vampire killing team, but they are all great characters and the twist involving Don's involvement in Cat's life was an interesting revelation.

Characters are wonderful. I couldn't put it down!
Another great series I like.
Hard core porn thinly disguised as a story. Made the mistake of buying three of this author's books without reading one first as they were recommended. Wasted money and wasted time. Couldn't even finish the last one.
