Helpful Score: 2
This was the first "David Rosenfelt" book I have read and I regret not stumbling upon him sooner! I could not put this book down. Not only was it suspenseful, I loved his style of writing, quick wit/sense of humor. I cannot wait to read more of his books!
Another good Andy Carpenter story. It's enjoyable seeing how Andy builds his client's defense, against incredible odds.
Excellent from beginning to end. Involving mystery and fascinating court trial - the view from the defense attorney's side. A real winner!
The Andy Carpenter series is one of my favorites and the books are hard to get for some reason.
always well written the story always has some humor in it, the characters are very likable and the stories are always very good.

All the usual suspects (um, secondary characters) are in evidence in this 9th Andy Carpenter caper. Andy also has a delicious interlude with a couple of Mafia-types. Marcus Clark, Andy's scary investigator who seems to look like a refrigerator (and capable of emptying a refrigerator in a single sitting) gets a bit more screen-time on his trip with Andy to Las Vegas.
All the characters are interesting and Andy spins a great yarn. Tara, Andy's golden retriever, gets a roommate, Bailey, a mastiff, that Andy likens to a small horse. In this book, we learn Tara's backstory (you didn't know pets had a backstory, did you?).
Noah Galloway is accused of killing 26 of the 27 individuals in an apartment building and setting it on fire with napalm. The fire happened 6 years earlier, but the heinousness of the killings has kept it at the forefront of the public's imagination. Someone comes forward and tells that Noah told him about the fire in great detail. After the police and FBI get his information down and signed, the squealer turns up dead.
To complicate the plot, Noah doesn't remember the fire but believes he must have done it and wants to confess so he can be punished. Now, Andy avoids work at all times, but he has a client who just wants to take the prison-without-parole-option and Andy has to talk him out of it. The courtroom drama has all the humor and antics readers have come to expect from our hero. Another winner by David Rosenfelt.

I love the Andy Carpenter series and this did not disappoint! Written with clever twists and turns and humor and of course dogs - lots of dogs! LOVE IT!
gret read
Andy Carpenter is quickly turning into one of my favorite characters of all time. I think it is because of his sense of humor and his love for dogs, especially golden retrievers. Being an extremely intelligent defense attorney also comes into play. This book was great. It had all the things we always want in one of David Rosenfelt's stories: seemingly endless plot twists, Tara, other dogs, his love for Carrie and his wild unstoppable sense of humor. I can't wait to read the next one!
I have njot read any of the other "Andy Carpenter"
novels, but this one stood alone, and I loved it.
Andy is trying to retire as a defense attorney when a women asks him to represent her husband, who has been charged with arson where 20+ people died. She tells him they are "connected" by his dog, who he adopted from a shelter. Apparently the dog initially belonged to her husband, and out of love for it turned it over to the shelter when he could not afford to care for it.
The arson case takes many twists and turns, revealing criminal activity that includes a judge, attorney, and many others. I felt it was well written, and highly recommend it.
