Like McKiernan's first book "Once Upon a Winter Night," this second book is a lighthearted retelling of some classic fairy tales with "love, and seduction and copious sex and bloody fights and knights and witches and dragons and ogres and giants and other fantastic beings all scattered throughout the scope of the tale as the hero or heroine struggled on." (author's forward quoted here). I have always loved retellings of fairy tales, and this is as good as any by Mercedes Lackey or Robin McKinley, although with a different flavor. A very enjoyable read. I look forward to completing the series.
