Tess is a woman who has been given a miraculous second chance at life. Jack is a man who abandoned hope long ago. Imprisoned by savage memories, he believes he has nothing to offer anyone, especially a woman like Tess, who dares to ask for the impossible...his love.

I thought I would be more thrilled with this book.. and in the beginning I was totally wrapped up in the story. However, about mid-way through, this book turned from original idea to traditional historical romance. It was a quick read.

The story line of this book couldn't move any slower if you stopped reading it all together. Ugh. I was so disappointed, too! I started out great and then just got stuck in the day-to-day details that just drag out so s-l-o-wl-y.

Book Description
Tess Gregory's brilliant career as a research scientist hides her longings for husband and child. Though deaf, she is a free spirit -- a woman full of life and love. She is struck down all too soon.
But for Tess, a new life begins at her death, in post-Civil War America. She is now Amarylis Rafferty, wife and mother of three -- and she can hear. Shocked and disoriented by her new surroundings, she is drawn into the savage heartache burdening the family, especially her husband, Jack, a man who fears himself capable of anything.
