A lot of other reviews nailed, but I still bought the book giving the benefit of doubt. Alten has been getting more and more preachy. It so incredible dangerous to push your political views in a novel so blatantly, especially if you are far to one side or other of the spectrum. Personally I'd rather not know his politics, or at least be subtle about it. But the first quarter of the book reads like an Ed Schultz nightmare/wet dream as transcribed by Rachel Maddow. There were some fairly neat ideas at the very end of the book, and some twists. I can say this it was not worth the effort though. Basic gist of the book:
⢠Corporations are evil
⢠America et al is RAGING anti-Semites
⢠Men are evil
⢠Organized Religion is evil (There is some pro-schmucky spirituality)
⢠Pro-communism (but anti fascism)
There is also a lot of suspension of reason, commonsense, and basic scientific knowledge. This book broke my heart for several reasons. 1) WAY WAY to preachy, 2) Main Character is just a slight deviation of his other main characters, no real reach here, 3) There was tantalizing ideas, with lots of possibility squandered in the last third of the book.
