I got this book, because I wanted a good mystery. I loved it. I didn't figure out who did it until the end. Even though I thought it was everyone and slowly they were checked off. It really took me back to mysteries I read as a kid that I read the last chapter, because I couldn't wait to see who did it.

Another excellent book by Hallie Ephron. It was very suspenseful clear up until the end. I had figured out most of it by the end, but still a very enjoyable, quick read. I really liked the characters; they were real and down to earth. I have read all her suspense novels and they all have been good.

A slow start, but a great finish to this thriller. A young woman who has spent her professional life preserving moments from the past for others to enjoy for years to come, when she is ripped out of her normal routine to her hometown to take care of her suddenly ailing mother. Along with an elderly neighbor who is quite a feisty one they uncover a plot that is ripping through their neighborhood and the real question is who is behind the plot.

Wow! I could not stop reading this book once I got started. I loved the dialogue, the little out-of-place hints of a bigger mystery looming and a constant switcheroo when trying to figure out who was the mastermind. Loved all the description of the local setting, and enjoyed the backstory of Evie's profession.

I've read three of Hallie Ephron's books now, and very much liked two of them. The first, Never Tell A Lie, was excellent in my opinion. I disliked the second because of it's computer technology theme, however this, the third, turned out to be pretty good. Maybe not quite as good as the first, but close. This story gives the reader a sense of what it might feel like to be very elderly, living alone, and having no caring relatives or friends left to turn to. The plot centers around the greed of a development company, and how far its team is willing to go in order to get their hands on a small but lovely area of older houses whose owners are mostly elderly and helpless when it comes to dealing with the vicious and determined creeps who intend to move them all out in order to demolish their homes and make a fortune by building on the sites. The ending was decent, with a bit of a surprise, although most of it was fairly predictable. I enjoyed it as a quick read with a few hair raising moments to it. I wouldn't mind seeing more like this, or the first one, by this author.
