The poetry was the basis for "CATS" the musical and the illustrations are by Edward Gorey (think "Mystery" on Public TV) great to read aloud!

charmingly illustrated and most amusing . . i love this book
Meet the cats of "Cats" the Broadway musical.
It was a very good read. I liked this much better then the wastland.
Ho hum! Drivel and nonsensical poems about a myriad of the feline persuasion. Not quite up to the par of Ogden Nash. Why bother?
This book of poems was very good. I am going to see the play "cats" and I wanted to read the poems first. Now I can't wait to see the play as I will know a bit about the cats that are in it. Fun and funny at times.
I'm a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats", so when I discovered it was actually based on a set of poems, I was so excited to read them. While I enjoy Webber's musical version of many of these poems, it's pretty neat to simply read them as poetry.
This is a great read for people owned by cats or cat-lovers. :)

"There's a whisper down the line at 11:39
Where the Night Mail's ready to depart,
Saying, 'Skimble, where is Skimble has he gone to hunt the thimble?
We must find him or the train can't start.'"

the classic poem upon which the musical Cats is based.
