ISBN 0785319069 - I've got to admit that I had low expectations of this book. This Old Man looks, on the surface, like yet another nursery rhyme, and there are just many of those out there. Leap Frog (I have no idea if this is the same Leap Frog LeapPad company or otherwise) and illustrator Larry Nolte did a surprisingly good job.
This Old Man, the one you remember playing with a knick-knack patty-whack, is back with a new set of rhymes. He plays three in a tree - and under a flap. Each page features a number and each rhyme is hidden under a liftable flap.
This small (4" x 4") board book has the usual sturdy pages, which is a plus. The flaps are slightly less flimsy than most and are well-hidden, making them a little bit of a surprise for your young reader. That surprise, on top of the new rhymes in an old song, make This Old Man a more fun read than I expected.
