Peter Taylor was one of the greats--a truly classic Southern writer. These short stories are luminous. His prose is meticulous. Anyone who cares about literature should read this book.

Southern relationships are complex. Peter Taylor is a southern writer who captures the culture exactly. He won a Pulitzer prize for one of his books. This book has 20 short stories located mostly in Tennessee in the 1930's and 1940's. As a southerner, I can recognize the mind set and the personalties. It was a rare find for me.
