Oathbound is an interesting fantasy set in Mercedes Lackeys "Valdemar" universe. The characters are very original although the plot can sometimes be almost steriotypically fantasy.

I didn't enjoy this and its companion novel as much as some of her other work, but it still tells a good story.

From Library Journal
Bound by oath to each other and to the Goddess, the swordswoman Tarma and the wizard Kethry begin a joint career as mercenaries in the constant struggle for justice in a land where demons come in human and not-so-human forms. The author of the "Heroes of Valdemar" trilogy begins a new series involving a pair of likeable, savvy heroines. Sword and sorcery with warmth and humor make this a story that will appeal to most fantasy fans. JC

This is a pretty fun adventure and one that I remembered quite well from all of the re-reads that I've done in the past. And with all of those re-reads, I must admit that this is one of the few of her books that has suffered from them. Several chapters of this book were originally published as their own short stories and the changes that were made were too nominal, giving the book a rather choppy feel... like it's still a book of short stories. It just doesn't flow as a novel. That being said, I am enjoying re-reading all of these books and I am looking forward to the next one, because the storyline is more fun, from what I remember.

I enjoyed rereading this book. Mercedes Lackey is one of my favorite authors of all time. She has good character development, the stories are interesting and the plot moves along. I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasies with strong women characters.

If you have read her Valdemar series you will like this book, too. It happens in the same world and they to to Valdemar in the course of their adventures.

I read this so long ago - high school was "long ago"? Crap! - anyway, I'm not certain a can give a due justice review. I do remember that this series wasn't one of my favorites of this author.

I didn't fall in love with any of the main characters. Some I just tolerated. And I didn't find the storyline that compelling, but I can appreciate that some audiences would adore it.

Classic Valedemar adventure about the sword-sworn, women wariors & mages.
