Very enjoyable account of an English chap (journalist, if I remember correctly) who decides to hop a small vessel he captains himself, and tours the Mississippi from it's birthplace in the northern states & follow it to it's exit at the mouth of the Atlantic in Louisana. Quite an adventure with very interesting accounts of shoreline visits with local townspeople who , several of which, open their homes to him for an overnight visit.Getting overwhelmed on this Great River is an understatement. He's a novice & an eyebrow raiser to those who well know the dangers of Old Miss'and her Tributaries. Some pleasant insights he passes along, also, of Mark Twain's journeys , based on his investigations into Twain's accounts of steamboat management on the great river.
