Excellent book! Once I started it I couldn't put it down. I really liked everything about the book, including the atmosphere, setting, subject matter, and the protagonist, Sweeney. Just when I thought I had everything figured out about whodunnit the ending surprised me. Another reason I enjoyed the book was because I love history, so reading about the different periods of art and tombstones was very interesting.

Took a while to get interested in her story. She referred to many artists and writers. But I can see now that it was to put the reader in a certain frame of mind. The mystery had several interesting unexpected turns and kept the reader guessing right up to the end.

This was a well written mystery with lots of twists and turns and a not so obvious ending. I've read several other books in this series and really wish I had started with this one as it explains who the different characters are in Sweeney's life. Not the most easy read but definitely interesting and well written. Would recommend.

Four stars. This took a while to get going for me, but then I loved it, as well as the main character's name (Sweeney). Well-written and fun how everything ties together---poetry, history, artwork, gravestones. Loved the artist colony aspect of the story. Kept me guessing until the end. I am sure I'll be reading the next Sweeney mystery!

A very interesting and well written story.Highly recommended.
Engaging mystery set in an artists' colongy in Vermont. The funerary art/archaeological aspects were fascinating.
Liked this period mystery. Well written.
Really enjoyed this mystery! So much so that I've read the second book which was even better and have the third yet to go!
