I was a bit disappointed that this was not as good as the previous book in this series, "Never Less Than A Lady". Lady Kiri and Mackenzie were different and interesting characters, but they didn't have the depth of Julia and Major Randall. At some points I thought I was reading a book by Stephanie Laurens-not that there's anything wrong with that-but I guess I just think Putney is at her best with the darker type stories, like "The Rake". Also, some parts of the plot seemed highly unlikely and incongruous for the era. An OK lightweight read.

I agree with Jerseygirltoo review. Putney is one of my favorite authors, and totally love most of her books. But for some reason I wasn't into Kiri and Mac's story.

I expected better things from the author. This book was a dud. There was overuse of the adjectives allure, and warrior queen. The character description was shallow, and they were so full of their own angst they couldn't seem to find redeeming qualities. So why did they fall in love? I've been a fan of Putney's for a long time, but this novel was a struggle to finish. I was happy to post it.
