I haven't been able to read Brennan for a long time, I just got sick and tired of her Lucy Kincaid books and this starts a new character since it is titled as bk 1, but I won't be looking for bk 2.
The character of Max Revere is a woman and investigates cold cases, etc. She did not appeal to me nor did any of the people in this book, struggles to get through the first 50 pages and then didn't make it much past that, just not interesting or gripping.

Yes, this is a mystery. Another of the many written for mystery fans to enjoy. For me, it was so so. The key character, Maxine Revere, is a hard nosed reporter who is so focused on getting to the truth she sometimes forgets who she might hurt in the process. I didn't like her much but she finds the murderer. And, I'm sure it is hard to investigate murders when your family is involved. Too much emotional baggage. However, I am certain that those who prefer reading mysteries will enjoy this one along with its subtle romantic undertones. A decent read, yes.

Max has her plate full with these two investigations. There are lots and lots of characters in this book. I had to start a list to keep track of everyone. There were many of twists and turns in this one which made the book hard to put down. We also learned a lot about Max's past and what drives her to investigate these cases. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I really loved this book. Couldn't put it down for very long. This is about a girl who comes home for a friends funeral and gets involved in solving a murder from the past. I would recommend this book to all mystery lovers.
NOTORIOUS was a little too sophomoric.
You really can just read the prologue then skip to the last 50 pages and have the whole plot right there. There's very little reason to read the filler in-between, which is sad.
I give NOTORIOUS 2/5 stars...it really wasn't worth the time. I highly recommend Tami Hoag for smarter mysteries/thrillers.
