Why would a wife go to jail to protect another man? Great murder mystery.
Dismas knows his wife, Frannie, is the most reliable of mothers. When she fails to pick up their children from school one afternoon, he's convinced something terrible has happened. It has: Frannie Hardy is in jail. Called before the grand jury in a murder investigation, she refused to reveal a secret entrusted to her by a man whose children attend the same school as hers, a friend who is accused of killing his wife. But now he has disappeared. Hardy knows there's only one way to get Frannie out of jail: clear her friend of murder. That is, if he can be found.

Excellent story!!
A winning thriller. A San Francisco attorney's wife doesn't pick up the children at school. Turns out she is in jail. Great reading to find out why!
From the back of the book: When San Francisco attorney Dismas Hardy gets a call saying his wife never picked the kids up from school, he's worried. Frannie's a great mother. Turns out there's a good explanation: She's in jail.
This was a good introduction to me of Lescroart's work. A good fast-moving mystery.

My first book by this author. I suppose it is ok for an officer of the court to condone custodial interference. That was my biggest problem with the book. Certainly fictional, but just too far fetched. This would not happen. A lawyer working "unofficially" with and then without police, luckily grandparents of a dead former husband can take care of children, just too far fetched!
