Cancer is a horrible disease at any age, but when it happens to a child, it is nothing short of heartbreaking. I cried as soon as I opened the book and saw the 1st picture of one of the "notes left behind." Read with tissues handy. That all being said, this is an excellent book and truly is a reminder to cherish your little loved ones and to take the time to read that super long book at bedtime instead of the shortest one.

I knew this wasn't going to be a book with a "happily ever after," yet the emotions I experienced while reading it does not even compare to what this family endured throughout their battle with their daughter Elena's illness. This was an amazing and heartwarming (true) story/chronology of a strong-willed family brave enough to share the details and experiences throughout the years in which Elena battled brain cancer, desperate to see her beat the odds. As the author conveys, "Elena's lesson is not one of death and cancer; instead it is one of hope and life." After reading this book, I will remind myself more frequently that each day is truly a gift.

I won an ARC of this book in the first reads giveaway!
This book is a real tear-jerker! It is the journal of Elena's parents as they deal with her cancer. It really makes you realize that we should cherish every moment with our loved ones.

This is a very touching story of a little girl's bravery and will to live in her battle with cancer.
I finished it in one day, and a half box of kleenex. You will remember this story long after the tears have dried.
This is a must read for all parents.
