If you loved the mini series, you'll love this book. It has more details & really gets you into the story. Of course, there are plots within plots so you are hanging on till the end. A good vacation book since it is quite thick. My only criticism is that Ian Dunross' description does not match Pierce Brosnan, who played him in the mini series. I especially liked the insight into Hong Kong & its colorful people.

More than just a history of Hong Kong, this novel paints a vivid picture of the vibrant city as it was in the late 20th century. For those who enjoy Clavell's other novels of Japan, you will find the descendants of the characters who appeared in the first novel, "Shogun."

Rich character development and very interesting as it is post WWII and industrial relations are really building world wide. It gives a more global perspective rather than just American perspective on changing time and the impacts on tradition. Characters are interesting and he has you rooting for the good guys and the bad guys.

A great story set in Hong Kong. It would be fantastic on a long trip. Or to kill large insects!

Another great work of historical fiction by James Clavell. He builds on the Shogun work and leads you to the Tai-Pan as well. If you enjoy historical novels, his work will keep you enthralled!
