The author started out with a great premise: can two people really build a relationship on hate and sex? And if they can, should they?

For all of the romanticism in this book there is a lack of true love. The author does not make the reader privy to any facet that binds these two together. Honestly, the only thing these characters have in common are Jack, incredible sex, and a good sense of humor. Each conversation between the two main characters is either about trust or Jack. What else do they have in common? The author does not explain.

The characters exhibit a strong sense of passion toward each other, but each encounter is marked by sex, or the beginning of an argument. The story is told from the sole perspective of Zach (which may have been a mistake.) The author does not delve into who Nathan is besides the fact that he is lawyer who has been in several bad relationships. The author also does not describe what Zach looks like.

There is no resolution in terms of their relationship and Jack. With how persistent Jack was throughout the book I doubt his last angry phone call would have been the end of his involvement in their relationship. The author did not even attempt to explain how these two would truly move past Jack and trust one another besides simply stating "I trust you." In the end they come to the resolution to trust each other, but still what do they have in common and what truly brings them together as a lasting couple?

Samhain Publishing is marketing this book as a m/m "romance". When I think of a romance novel I envision less sex and more character/ world building. If this was marketed as a erotic book I may have been more receptive to the lack of characterization.
