I guess I'm the only person who wasn't impressed with this book. I found it too much a derivative of Bridges of Madison County. I also can't suspend disbelief enough to believe in mature people being stupid enough to "fall in love" in two days. In two days, you can only fall in love with an image since you have to know someone to really fall in love with them. I thought the author "told" the story instead of showing and making me feel the emotions of the characters. I found the relationship of the two main characters much less interesting than any of the other relationships in the book. All in all, it did not knock my socks off... or even loosen a shoelace.

Fast read, but beware...it is a tearjerker! I think I will go back to my mystery/thrillers for awhile. One good cry like that can last you for awhile! *smile*

The first Sparks book that I read was A walk to remember. I read that my freshman year in highschool, then never really thought about reading any of his other works. Then one day while on vacation with some family I stumbled across a discount book store. We were in there forever, and I happened across a hardback copy of this and remembered reading A walk to remember all those years ago. So I bought it on a whim, and am I ever glad that I did. This one and A Bend in the road have become two of my favorite Nicholas Sparks books. I am a guy so I don't read much romance, but his books draw you in and make you connect with the characters, without being to sappy or cheesy or smutty like those women's romance books they basically stamp out on a conveyor belt. I encourage anyone who has not read it or any Nicholas Sparks book to give this one a try. It's short and engrossing and rather enjoyable.

Wow! What a great story! I made the mistake of seeing the movie first........don't waste your money or time. Movie was very shallow and way too predictable. So I decided to read the book and was I glad. The story moves quickly (an easy one-day read) but keeps you wanting more. The depth of Adrienne and Paul's love was so intense, you could only feel it if you've experienced that love yourself. And if you haven't, readers, go out and find that love! You deserve it.

Well, this one didn't make me totally cry (eyes welled up a bit, but I kept the tears from falling), but it certainly did make my heart ache! Nicholas Sparks really knows how to tug at those heart strings! It is a quick read and even though you could figure out the ending within the first few chapters, Sparks still makes you wonder how exactly it would get there. It is a love story about two people, Paul and Adrienne, who meet at a bed and breakfast (the only guests for a long weekend during a storm). Neither of them knew what was missing in their lives until they found each other. All in all, it was a beautiful story.

I've read almost all of Nicholas Sparks' books and enjoyed them all, thoroughly. This one, though, is a bit different from the others in that the entire story is told in a flashback. This kind of spoiled it for me...I would have rather not known what happened at the end before hearing the beginning. The story is beautiful, though, true to his amazing ability to create romance, yearning, and heart-wrenching situations.

I generally do not read romance, and didn't realize at the time that this was one. I was engulfed from the beginning. I was wrapped up with the characters and what they were experiencing. I laughed, chuckled and hurt as the characters did. An amazing story.

This is another bittersweet novel that will make you cry. Nicholas Sparks found a formula that works--who can blame him for using it?

I'm not exactly sure what to say about this book. It was decent. I am still waiting to find the novel of Nicholas Sparks' that makes him a must-read author for me but this wasn't it. The story line was good, the characters likeable, but nothing really made me go "WOW". The ending was predictable, but that's not too surprising either.

In my opinion this book is one the best books Nicholas Sparks has written so far. I truely enjoyed reading this book and had trouble holding back tears in the end. The ending is surprising and leaves you feeling a little sad, but definitely glad that you took the time to read it. After I finished the book, I ran to the theaters to see the movie and was a little dispointed. I felt that the book was a lot better compared to the movie.

I am so glad that I did! The movie did not do the book justice in my opinion. The book was awesome but the movie was a total dissapointment to me.Once I got past the first couple of chapters this book kept me on the edge of my seat! If you like Nicholas Sparks books you will love this one!

This well written book is a quick read and entertaining. However, since most people have probably seen the trailer for the movie, its pretty predictable. Its a very romantic story with a sad ending if you enjoy those heart wrenching tales. In my mind, it was ok, but I only read it because I thought the book would probably be better than the movie.

Get the kleenex ready!!!! This book was truly a tear jerker. I loved it though, I only wish I had NEVER seen the movie. The most important part of the book to me was the relationship between mother and daughter and it was competely left out in te movie. In the book the only reasons the mother shares her story was because he daughter had just lost her husband and didn't want to go on living. She thought her mother could never understand the loss of a spouce because she was divorced from her father. Then her mom begins to tell her of a man she fell in love with and how she understand more than her daughter can ever imagine.

I was hoping that the book would have been the same as the movie, but it wasn't. The book's story was longer and more in detail, but the way the story was played in the movie was just bit's and pieces of what went on in the book and the real story was severly modified. Most of it was cut out of the movie. I have to say the movie was much better.

Broken-hearted and reeling from such betrayal, Adrienne Willis must rethink the entire course of her life after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. Now, at age forty-five, Adrienne has been divorced for three years, and is simply worn down by life. The trials of raising her teenage children alone and caring for her terminally ill father have ultimately left Adrienne completely exhausted and severely emotionally depleted.
At the request of a friend, and seeking respite and self-rejuvenation, she has come to Rodanthe - a coastal village in North Carolina - to tend the local inn for the weekend. What seems to Adrienne like a perfectly restful plan at first, is threatened by the news of a major brewing storm. Her time away doesn't seem too promising...until a guest named Paul Flanner arrives.
At fifty-four, Paul is a successful surgeon, but in the past six months his life has unraveled into something that he doesn't even recognize. Estranged from his son and recently divorced, he has sold his practice and his home and has journeyed to this isolated town with hopes of closing a painful chapter in his past. Inevitably, Adrienne and Paul come together as the storm sweeps over Rodanthe and two battered and bruised hearts find a home with each other. Something begins between them during that single weekend; a bond that will resonate with them for the rest of their lives, intertwining past and future, love and loss.
In my opinion, this was a surprisingly good book; I really, really enjoyed the story. I don't usually like reading anything that is overtly romantic, but to me, this was a true love story and not just a 'romance-for-the-sake-of romance' plot. The story was well-written, touching and poignant, and I enjoyed it immensely. I know that I have at least one more book by Nicholas Sparks sitting on my bookshelf, and I think Mareena has at least two or three books by this author that she says she'll lend me to read as well. I give this book an A+!

You can listen to this one in your car, and even leave the windows open and not blush at stop-lights. However, towards the end, plan to be stopped somewhere. From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nicholas Sparks comes a tender story of hope and joy, of sacrifice and forgiveness - a moving reminder that love is possible at any age, at any time, and often comes when we least expect it.
I enjoyed this one from Sparks but it was very predictable. I knew the ending well before the book ended. It's a quick and easy read. Perfect for a short trip. The story is sad and I wanted more out of the characters but overall it was good.
A great book by a great author.
One of Nicholas Sparks best books yet - engaging story.
A very good book that everyone should read
Nicholas Sparks is always good but I found this a little on the shallow and unbelievable side. It was just a little too mushy for my taste.
I enjoyed this book, as with the other Nicholas Spark books I've read. This holds true to the rest of Sparks' books; it has a good plot, and well developed characters. Though this one didn't make me bawl like The Notebook, it still brought tears to my eyes.
It's an easy read, so if you'll be stuck waiting for a little while, bring this along with you! :)

Dang Nicholas Sparks and his ability to make me cry!! I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick read, and I recommend a box of tissues for the last, oh, twenty pages or so. It was an excellent story to curl up with.
As usual with Nicholas Sparks, I was in tears by the end of the book. If you love his other books, you will like this one.
This is a very good book, even better than the movie. It is very sad and tragic, but simultaniously extremely romantic. Nobody wants to believe that their parents have a life and identity that they know nothing about, full of experiences and feelings that could not even be guessed at. This book reminds us of that. I really enjoyed it and the story it told.
An absolutely gorgeous story! The tension within each of these characters is palpable, and each provides so much for the other. Very tender.
Typical, predictable Nicholas Sparks. As usual, a love story that ends in tragedy. If you like Sparks' novels, you'll probably enjoy this book. If you haven't read much Nicholas Sparks I'd say pass.

So full of depth, meaning, new discoveries and change. Even when change brings pain, there is great hope in knowing that life touches deeply and we responded in kind. Happy reading.

A must read. I saw the movie first then read the book. I give it a 3 kleenex rating.
This was a good book but not the best he has written.
Stories based in North Carolina are a favorite of mine, since I love the coast there and have spent many years vacationing with my family since I was a child. Nights in Rodanthe is a story of a woman in a state of heartache after her husband leaves her for a younger woman. To get some emotional rest, she goes to her friend's inn in Rodanthe, where she meets a man also looking for an emotional vacation. The two collide in one weekend.
What a lovely writer! It's an absolutely beautiful story! I cried of course. Had to get the movie and hated it! I really enjoy Sparks books, quick easy reads with a lot of punch!

I finished this book just a few minutes ago. Now that was a good book. There's something about novels like this that give you a fresh perspective on life and... love. It's always a wonderful feeling to be able to escape and fall into a world unknown and yet enjoy every bit of it. It was such a good story. I highly recommend that you read this book. I would tell you what it's about, but I rather not ruin it. It sounds almost like a fairy-tale, but real. As good as it sounds, it just feels like something that could happen to anyone, except for the "watching the Inn" part. Yeah, I don't know many people with one, so that would hinder my story being written the same way. LOL! It was good book, really it was. I fell in love with it and if you read it, I hope you do as well.
I love Nicholas Sparks and this one did not disappoint me.
nicholas sparks is a genius at story-telling, and this one is no different. you know the outcome at the beginning of the book, and you still cry anyway.
He writes some very good books...
Great book! Nicholas Sparks makes me shed tears!
I am re-posting this book today, as it was truly poignant a story and one I want others to have a chance to enjoy as I did!
I love how detailed the author gets with the characters - their feelings and their thoughts. Great read, hard to put down.
Very touching. Made me cry I really like Nicholas Sparks books. Worth reading.
Nicholas Sparks never fails to deliver a book you can't put down until the very last page! I love his books and movies and this one was no different! He captures your attention in every page.

Sparks (A Bend in the Road, etc.) logs more miles on the winding high road of romance with the story of two middle-aged people who meet by chance in the small North Carolina coastal town of Rodanthe. The impassioned but doomed romance seems to owe much to Robert James Waller's The Bridges of Madison County.

Treacly, unrealistic, over the top romance -- typical Sparks stuff. His fans will love it. The rest of us will risk permanent injury from the eye-rolling at the unlikely, idealized tale of two lonely people turning their lives around in just a few days, only to spend the rest of their lives (long for her, short for him) pining away for each other.
When her husband leaves her for a younger woman, Adrienne Willis is thrust into a devastating midlife crisis. Suddenly abandoned at 45, she reels without purpose. Lacking any clear plan, she accepts a friend's invitation and flees for a weekend to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Carolina. Located near the northern tip of Hatteras Island, this Outer Banks retreat seems well suited to be a quiet respite, but a brutal storm destroys any sense of sanctuary. Adrienne's stranding is complicated and relieved by the presence of Paul Flanner, a 54-year-old physician with his own shattered past. The author of A Bend in the Road and Message in a Bottle has once again delivered a twisting tale about human relationships.
Easy and Quick read. Read it in one day. Did not see what was coming at the end.
I have to say, I liked the book much better than the movie!
I read this entire book last night. I could. not. put. it. down. Such an incredible love story, I cried my eyes out. Highly recommend!
A great love story, but I thought there were some Nicholas Sparks books that were a bit better. A very quick read.
My copy is a hardcover - soylagringaloca

Another great Sparks book. He is exellent!!
It was a heatwarming story of love. It starts with heatache and starting all over but life turns around for the main character. I enjoyed the story.
The movie will be release June 6th, 2008, starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane! Can't wait!
Two strangers meet at an inn in NC and turn to each other for comfort.
This is more a thriller romance than the usual Nicholas Sparks story. But it is a well-crafted and entertaining story.
This is a great book. Very interesting
As awlays, Sparks outdoes himself
made me think of bridges of madison county
A richly woven love story, touching and emotional.
I love all his books!
Very quick, romantic read. I liked the fact that I knew how it would end without knowing why it would end that way. The author told the whole story in a flashback that was very easy to follow and a fun way to figure out how the story would unfold.
I really enjoyed this quick read. I liked better than some of Sparks other novels.
A wonderful story of love and loss. Get your hankies ready.
Excellent book!
Not my favorite by him. I felt that he was pushing the story a little too fast. But still a good read.
Another great book by Nicholas Sparks.

Another great read from Nicholas Sparks. Great location..... Can't wait for the movie.
Not my favorite Sparks novel. It was slow and uneventful. But that is just my opinion.
Another page-turner and tear-jerker from Nicholas Sparks, \"Nights in Rodanthe\" is all that Sparks fans have come to love and expect from him.
It was.......another nicholas sparks book. /eh
Nice love story.
Really loved listening to this audio book...the movie was pretty true to the story, so if you liked Richard Gere and Diane Lane, you will be able to picture this all the way through as the story is told. Very romantic, great job of depicting love later in life. A true Nicholas Sparks winner.
Reeling with heartache after her husband abandons her for a younger woman, Adrienne Willis flees to the small coastal town of Rodanthe, North Caroline, to tend a friend's inn. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink her life. But almost as soon as she gets there, a major storm is forecast and a guest named Dr. Paul Flanner arrives. At fifty-four, Paul has just sold his medical practice and is trying to escape his own shattered past. Now, with a fierce nor'easter closing in, two wounded people will turn to each other for comfort and in one weekend set in motion feelings that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.
Still glad that I have a cassette player so I could experience "Nights in Rodanthe". It was pleasant and interesting. Father son relationships are always difficult and the author made me understand that things can change for the better. The romance was sweet but I gained much from the Father and Son.
I loved this story!
Just as wonderful as all Sparks' stories... You'll smile and cry!
If you love Nicholas Sparks, this story is architypically him. I am not a great fan, but this one weaves in characters that value different kinds of love and I liked that.
loved it
I saw the movie before I read the book and I prefer not to do that, but this book still outshined the movie. So, if you thought the movie was good - read the book. I love Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook will always be my favorite, but this book touched me just as much because of the exploration of the mother-daughter relationship and how far mother's will go to protect their children and how much pain we will endure to help set them free. Have a box of tissues handy!
Sigh....makes you want to fall in love and have them say those words to use...Great book you feel in the heart!
A must read!

Adrienne Willis's concern for her widowed daughter prompts her to relate a story she thought would live only in her own heart, a story of love and redemption, loss and grief.
This was okay. Not one of his best.
Typical wonderful Nicholas Sparks. Easy to read. Slight ding on the binding.
I love anything set in Hatteras!
#1 NY Times Bestseller
Excellent book, and it's paperback!
This one's a prime example of Sparks' feeling for the way people live their lives as well as they can.

I didn't like this one at all. Very sappy and the characters were annoying to me.
