A reluctant entrant in the Miss America pageant (c.1949) falls hard for her pageant-approved escort for the week in Atlantic City, NJ. I grew up in the era when Miss America was a big deal on tv, so I was attracted by the title and the cover photo. I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed reading this book. Some have described this as a 'beach read,' but the writing lifts it out of this category. Four stars.
