I loved this book. As always, Pratchett has created a novel that is very entertaining and witty. Commander Sam Vimes is sent back in time with a psycho killer on the day that his wife goes into labor. Vimes must teach his younger self the ways of a night watchman while attempting to capture the murderer and be sent back to the future.

Terrific fun, wildly inventive, and a good choice if you've never read a Discworld novel before.

This was a funny and poignant book about visiting the past. I liked how Sam taught his younger self about bravery and doing the right thing. I also liked meeting characters when they were younger such as Dibbler and Vetinari.

This Discworld trip helps us to get to know Sam Vimes. A complex man who changed the face of Discworld just by cleaning up the night watch. :-)

I love Terry Pratchett. I've been reading him in chronological order and his writing gets better with every book. Night Watch is well written and features one of his more interesting characters, Sam Vimes. However, we see very little of the other lovable Watch characters in this book, since it's set in the past when Vimes was young. I didn't feel the villain was strong enough for Vimes, a formidable hero, which always makes a book's plot suffer. It also gets politically confusing at times and a subplot with Vetinari goes completely unsolved. This book is also not nearly as funny as Pratchett's other books.
