This is the second in the series and I like Jack Carpenter, even more. In this edition, he is trying to find a missing boy and there are lots of contingencies. He pines for his wife which he is separated from but they are both still in love with each other. He's in the good graces of the local police and then he's not - like a roller coaster. The police are no help and get in his way more than help. There's also the missing boy's Grandpa close to being put to death in prison. He hires Jack to find his abducted grandson. The police are looking at the boy's father, but Grandpa knows it isn't him. He wants his son cleared and his grandson rescued. Jack and his dog take the case. Good series.
