This book was one of Karen Robards earlier books. The hero and heroine of this story are very different from the ones in her books now-a-days. Its refreshing to read a story where both main characters did not fall head over heels at first sight. As a matter of fact, the hero was very crude and un-hero-like and the heroine, although triumphed when needed, was very demanding and whiny. All in all, this book was definitely worth the read.

When they went to look, Clara escaped-out into the darkness and right into the strong arms of a magnificient stranger-a man as sensual and exciting as the perfect lover she described in her books, but had never found in real life. He was CIA agent Jack McClain, code named "Magic Dragon," a man running for his life and taking Clara-and Puff- with him into a wild spill of hair-raising adventure, deadly espionage and unforgettable love.

I enjoyed the heroine, Clara, and her cat, Puff. I didn't have any sympathy for the hero, Jack. He and the villian were a little too gritty for me. Likewise, the torture scene.

Good action and a fun read.

Lovely, blonde, and sensual herself. Clara Winston writes sizzling romance novels, always starring the kind of hero she someday hopes to meet-powerful, yet sensitive: accomplished, yet modest; overwhelmingly sexy, yet willing to give his heart to the right woman. Going to bed every night with only her cat, Puff, for company, Clara wonders if she will ever find a real-life male who will measure up to her dreams.
Then in one dangerous, desperate evening she finds herself face-to-face with someone as handsome and exciting as the men in her stories. He's Jack McClain, a CIA agent running for his life and accidentally taking Clara-and Puff-with him. His emerald eyes seem to shoot green sparks, and his arrogance makes her blood boil. But in his arms she feels light-headed...and when his lips touch hers, she knows this man's passion is what she's always wanted. Now, as a deadly conspiracy threatens them both, Clara is ready to break every rule in the book to win his love.

This was ok. The overall plot wasn't too bad. However, the heroine went overboard with her spitfire antics and being a real b*tch when she didn't need to be, which got rather annoying. It was a little too predictable in some areas and I didn't care for the ending. Robards cut it off a little too adruptly for my taste.

There is nothing slow about this book. It starts out with action. Clara is a romance author, single, and appears to be settled in her dull and quiet life. But all that changes one night when the KGB show up at her home breaking down her door wanting to know where he is- where Magic Dragon is hiding. Her lastest book Magic Dragon is dedicated to the real Magic Dragon (her cat "poof"). She is now on the run for her life with a man she has never met but is thought to be her lover, Jack McClain, code name Magic Dragon - a CIA agent that is on the run for his life after coming across information of Russian spies in government positions. Jack is rough and tough, military all the way, 38 and single. He has had his share of women- and his "type" has never been like Clara- or has it and he just didn't know it. There is never a dull moment in this story. The cat plays an important part in the story, too. If you are a cat lover you'll enjoy it. Lots of fun, adverture, romance... I highly recommend it! Being my first Karen Robards book to read- I look forward to reading more by her.

I liked the characters in this book. Even though this was a Romance I still liked the mystery aspect of it because I wanted to know what was going to happen.
