I really, really liked this book. It wasn't 'in your face, edge of the seat' tense or scary like Patterson or Tananbaum, but ...I don't know, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it did keep me tensed and reading. There was a perfect blending of relationship story and fearful suspense...I liked them and them together so that's what made me afraid of what could happen, I guess. Like a mellow thriller. LOL Anyway, I just remember thinking halfway through "I REALLY like this book".

Irene and Pamela had been the best of friends for one high school summer. Their friendship ended the night Pamela dropped Irene off at home and Irene found her parents' bodies on the kitchen floor. She fled Dunsley but has now been summoned back. Pamela's e-mail had been short and cryptic including the code word they had used as teenagers.Irene's hunger to know the truth compel her to extend her stay a the local lodge, to sort out what happend to Pamela Webb and what really happened on that long-ago summer night.
It was okay. It shows us we need to trust our instincts.
I really enjoyed this book. This was my first by Jayne Ann Krentz and I will be looking for more of her books.

Irene goes back to her home town after hearing form her one time best friend. Her parents were murdered there 17 years before. She encounters a terrifying nightmare plus a very interesting man
Irene Stenson returns home at the request of an old high school friend, whom she hasn't seen or talked to in seventeen years--since the death of Irene's parents. She arrives to find her friend dead. Was is suicide or murder? Did it have anything to do with her parents' deaths. As Irene investigates, she is joined by Luke Danner, ex-marine and owner of the lodge where she is staying. Irene is still trying to find resolution and closure over her parents' deaths and Luke is trying to find "normal" again after seeing some action in his military career. Instant attraction and common idiosyncrasies make for some interesting sparks.
Another great Krenz book--well developed characters, interesting story line, well-placed humor and just the right amount of romantic sizzle.
