I really enjoyed this book. I read it before my daughter did. The girl in the story raises carrier pigeons during WWII and her father is away at in Europe. The book has some suspense and could be scary but not too much. My daughter enjoyed it as well.

Pam is the best pigeon raiser in her small town. But having her father off in Europe fighting in World War I is not easy for Pam. When a foriegn stranger has been sneaking around her home, can she find out who's been stealing her birds before it's too late? A great read for middle grade girls, especially those who enjoy mysteries.
This is a great story but scary.A young girl operates her dad's carrier pigeons to send messages. This is during World War 1 and her dad is at war as a soldier. It is 1918 and the girl is Pam Lowder; She and her dad operate homing pigeons on the North Carolina Coast. They have rare birds Homers with the rare ability to fly at night. A stranger with a-foreign accent comes to town.Soon Pam's best birds begin to disappear and Pam is sure that the stranger is stealing them. Instead she fins evidence od something much worse. Could the stranger be an enemy spy? He is threatening everything Pam hold dear even-Papa?
