I must admit, this book surprised me. When I first started reading it, I couldn't get into the character. But as I read more, I began to appreciate the character's humor, and his analytical mind. The book is based on the tragedy of TWA flight 800 and tends to try and answer the question that was on everyone's mind.......was it truly a missile that brought the flight down. And who did it? As the main character, John Corey, begins to investigate a five year old mystery, he is met with government coverups and threats to him and those around him that makes him more than ever to want to solve the mystery. I admit that I thought I had the ending figured out, only the have the author use another horrible tragedy as an ending to the book that totally twisted the way I thought it would end. Great book, and one I would highly recommend.

This was the first Nelson DeMille book that I have read, and it was very enjoyable. I am planning to read his other books about Detective John Corey.

DeMille does a great job of keeping the story real, and the book is very enjoyable because of the wit that he has written into John Corey's character.

Good till the end, to find out there was no end. We wait to find out who sent the missal to shoot down Flight 800, and never find out because it ends with the downing of the Twin Towers.

Good thriller investigating the bombing of TWA 800 5 years before 9/11.

It is dusk on July 17, 1996 - a man and a woman who are married - but not to each other - make love on a beach as a video camera records their pleasure ... and something more. Out over the ocean, TWA Flight 800 suddenly explodes with 230 victims on board, the terrible blast illuminating the sky. The government's verdict is mechanical failure. But the videotape may tell another story - it if can be found. Now, on the fifth anniversary of the crash, two members of the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force set out to reopen the case: John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective and his wife, Kate Mayfield, a career FBI agent. Together, they hunt for the crucial video and race toward an elusive truth, even more horrifying than the crash itself.

It's been awhile, but this is one of the better novels/thrilles I have read. Demille obviously put a lot of thought into it, and he really doesn't come down on one side or the other whether the real LIS plane crash was an accident or a terrorist attack.
