A fantastic book that I had to make myself put down in order to get a couple of hours sleep, then I woke up early just to read more! It is a funny and sometimes painful book about an overweight woman who becomes a contestant on a reality show called Fat to Fabulous. This book is a really truthful fictionalized account of being fat in a society that loves thin. An excellent read...5 stars!

The Next Big Thing was actually better than I expected it to be. My friend, being a little overweight, bought the book and read it and then told me about it saying that "it wasn't as good as she expected, but go ahead and give it a try". So I did and I loved it! It was great! I really got into it and couldn't put it down once I started. It has a great ending and a very easy-to-relate-to main character. Loved it!

I thought this was a very fun and entertaining book. For a former "chubby" girl who was working to loose weight and keep it off... it reminded me that no matter what size I could keep my chin up :D

I enjoyed this book...there was a good mix of likeable and unlikeable characters...and there was always the feeling that something was going to happen to the main character so it kept me interested. I would say it's a good pick for those who like Weiner or Weisberger chick lit.

Funny and touching story of a size 18 woman in love with a man she met online - who thinks she's a size four. When offered a chance to lose weight on a nationally-aired reality show, she jumps at the chance.

I loved the way the authors hooked us in to the female characters. They were richly drawn and a delight to follow. I'd read more from this author.

Good book! I enjoyed the "inside" story of a reality show. It was interesting to see how the public perceived Kat, which is not what she expected at all. Better than typical chick lit, a lesson for us all about misconceptions and expectations concerning weight.

a quick, cute read about a fat girl who becomes a contestant on a reality tv show - "from fat to fabulous". in the end she realizes that her weight was the least of her prollems, yet it took her loosing a few pounds to realize that she could no longer blame her weight for her lifes problems.

This was a fun and fast read. I love the weight loss reality shows and I really liked this book. I'm not sure how close to "reality" this book is, but I have to bet it's close.

Imagine living with a camera in your face 24/7 while trying to lose weight AND live with strangers. And throw in a good dose of personal relationship ups and downs, parent/child communication (or lack of) and some horrible betrayals - and you've got a pretty wild ride.

I never wanted to be a contestant on a reality TV show, and this book just confirms my stand! But it was fun to live through vicariously and this book was a wonderful, fun story.

Really liked this - very entertaining and funny. About a reality show where the contestants try to lose weight. We get a pretty good idea of the ups and downs thru the main character, Kat. Shows the diversity of women dealing with their own feelings about their weight issues, plus society's hang-ups. Kat finds out that her problems have less to do with her size and more to do with her attitude. Kat reminded me of Bridget Jones - if you liked that book you'll like this too.

This book sat on my TBR pile for months. I wish I had read it earlier. I loved it and read the 1st 100 pages in one night and finished the book the next day. After reading this book I had to see if the author wrote anything else. It was that good. Some of the other reviews really sum up how great the book is. It gives you a peak into what reality tv can look like to the contestants, the families back home etc. I think the best part was the author used the reality tv idea to really speak out but not sound preachy. She let her character do the talking about fat, body image, food, clothing.

I really enjoyed this book. Seeing the inner workings of a reality show, Kat's thoughts about dealing with weight issues, and the twisty turvy plot line with Kat's love life, all kept me thoroughly entertained. It reminded me of a Jennifer Weiner type of book.

A fun book about reality shows. The main character finds herself by becoming a contestant on a reality show - From Fat to Fabulous. She thinks she will have the perfect life if only she were thin. Of course, that isn't the truth which she discovers along the way. Very fun to read.

A funny story about a plus sized young woman who decides to apply for a spot on the From Fat to Fabulous reality show so that when she meets the online love of her life she will look as fabulous as she described herself. Kat Larson figured she had nothing to lose by becoming a contestant on the new reality show From Fat to Fabulous-except maybe a few dozen pounds. Then she'd finally be able to arrange a face-to-face meeting with Nick, the British hunk she met online, who still thinks she's a size four. She'd finally be confident and graceful and thin-and there's that big cash prize, too, to pay for all those slinky new clothes she'd need. She'd finally have the perfect life.

From Booklist:
It's a plot torn from the pages of TV Guide: six overweight women live in a house of temptations and compete to see who loses the most weight. But it's far more satisfying than your average prime-time fare. The main character, Kat, always believed that life begins when you're thin. When her best friend, Donna, reads about a casting call for "From Fat to Fabulous," Kat decides she has nothing to lose but her belly. Of course, fame comes with a price. The tabloids dub her "Kat the Brat," and the show's surprise guest, her online boyfriend, dumps her on national television. Not to despair, however; Kat's story does have a happy ending. Edwards addresses image issues with wit and candor, and what's most refreshing is that losing weight doesn't make Kat's life perfect. Fans of Jennifer Weiner's realistic female protagonists will find a new favorite here. --Aleksandra Kostovski

Jennifer Weiner: "A fresh, funny treat for anyone with a weakness for dishy desserts or reality TV."
