When I first received this book from PBS I was disappointed because it's a small book--not a full-size novel like the rest of the series. Nevertheless, once I began reading it was just as interesting as the books before. This story does have quite a bit of reminiscing from earlier books, but I found that wasn't such a bad thing since I could use some reminders. :-) This is the eleventh book in the series, after all, and Chiaverini has a wonderful gift of writing about many facets of the Bergstrom family and Elm Creek Manor. It's fascinating to be reminded that Sylvia doesn't know some of the stories of the family that Chiaverini's readers do. :-)

The theme of this book is primarily about resolutions (New Year's, of course!) and the reminiscing is used to bring wisdom into current decisions. Sylvia and Andrew are married and they are driving to Connecticut to meet his daughter who has been violently opposed to their engagement. Sylvia is finishing up a quilt she started when she returned to Elm Creek Manor after a 50-year absence--a quilt that has memories for her of resolutions made and broken, lessons learned, and wisdom gained. Her greatest desire is to help Andrew's daughter not make the mistakes that she made in her own life.

Does Andrew's daughter accept Sylvia? You'll have to read the book! I'm also thinking that maybe I should look for the British movie entitled "Dinner for One"!

One of the best of this series. I loved the story and how the past relates to the future. Not as much quilting going on in htis one but still a great story. I recommend it and the entire series.

I love almost all of the Elm Creek Quilts books, but this one... not so much.
The book is a bit smaller than the others, but that's not altogether a bad thing. I continued to read it just because I've read all the other books in the series and I didn't want to miss one. That said, it was glad to finish it quickly. There was too much reminiscing for me. It was like going over all the old stuff that I already mostly knew. If you haven't already read most of the other books, it will probably be more interesting.

The good thing is, the book fleshed out some details about Sylvia's life that I had wondered about before, such as her adult years.

All in all, if you've enjoyed the other books, read this one too. Thankfully, it's a quick read.

As with all of the Elm Creek Quilts books, this is a heartwarming tale. Letting go of past hurts and learning to make the most of the future. Loved it! Heartwarming read.

I have read all the books in this series. To tell the truth there is getting to be very little "new" story and lots of re-hash of "old" story. I'm a quilter, so I enjoy the details of the quilts, and the stories about why one block was chosen over another. But I would like more new story and less time spent telling us about things we already knew. It feels like the author is on a time schedule for new books to come out, and she's going to publish something even if she doesn't have the content for a stand-alone book. This is not her best effort.

The Elm Creek series weaves between current stories and historical ones, but this is a current story based around Sylvia's fear that Andrew's daughter will never accept their marriage.

Great story! I loved the way it brought back some of the earlier story lines but added to it. Cannot wait for more Elm Creek!
