This is a great read for teachers, as well as, obviously, parents! My husband and I do not have children, but I have been a music teacher for 11+ years, and I find gems of practical, teaching and advice in this amazing book! I also have a growing number of nieces and nephews, and this book has given me a new baseline approach for what is culturally acceptable behavior in a child and what is ok to not tolerate. (Sometimes, I wonder where that line is, not being a parent!) I can also give relevant advice to my own friends who have kids who may be struggling in the common areas outlined in this book. It seems to be a great and timely book for our American culture, if we ever have kids, at least I have 1 sturdy book on my shelf to reference!
Dr. Leman's advice really helped me learn how to approach my then, 11 year old son. His theory is about the child facing consequences for their actions, be they good or bad. The first half of the book is made up of each day and what you do. The last half of the book is a list of many different situations you may have to deal with and how you approach it.
This book gave me back my sanity and taught me how to realize that I am not the bad guy after all.
