It's time to think about the Biography Challenge for 2014!  Obsessed Reader and I thought we might repeat 6 categories from 2013 in order to reduce the number of TBRs on our own shelves.  (We each selected 3 old categories.)  The other 5 (so far) on the list are some new ones that came to mind.  We're waiting for your ideas, comments and suggestions before finalizing the list.  Please respond by November 5th.

1. Collection of letters

2. Female author

3. Influential woman

4. Male author

5. Performing & visual arts

6. Person from non-western culture

7. Royalty or nobility

8. Someone born before 1700

9. Statesman

10. Travel memoir or journal

11. Villain

12. (Undecided category)

Remember your Free Choice may always be substituted for any category on the list.

I like the categories.  Only wonder if the letters category be expanded somehow.  I've been thinking but haven't come up with a suggestion.  Maybe the two of you have some!

REK. (bigstone),

Thanks for your suggestion to expand the letters category.  What about "Letters, Diary or Journal"?  Does that give enough wiggle room?

I'm okay with categories for sports figures and/or captains of industry. Mary and I have so many books on authors--that's why we have devoted more space for them.

Ultimately, we'll probably list 14 or 15 and just let people choose.

I like it!!!!  Assume that we can include a book that talks about more than one person in these categories.  Right?

I would say it's okay if a book focuses on more than one person in these categories.

I like the idea of having 14 or 15 categories.  That gives everyone more opportunities to select the biographies that are just right for them.
