Very intense...and you might want to read Perfect Evil first. She uses many of the same characters.

Book 5 in the Maggie O'dell series is really a sequel to "A Perfect Evil", book 1 in this series. I was wondering when we would hear from Father Michael Keller again. And here he is on a hit list!

A return to an old character, Fr Keller. Once again Alex keeps you on the edge of your seat. I liked the ending even though I had guessed at it earlier. Looking forward to more Maggie O'Dell books.
Great Read
Another great Maggie O'Dell FBI agent story, and finally the follow up to "A Perfect Evil" with the return of Father Keller...
Fifth in a series, but works well as a stand-alone.
Kava weaves together two waves of frightening murders -- a series of young women whose decapitated heads have been found in the Washington, D.C. area, and a series of murdered priests who have all been involved in pedophilia scandals.
The observant reader will probably identify the Master Villain fairly early on, as Kava is generous with the clues and doesn't clutter things up with too many red herrings. At the heart of the novel, however, is a moral dilemma, dealing with the essential conflict between the law and true justice.

A Necessary Evil is a sequel to A Perfect Evil and is very fast-paced with lots of suspense and twists. Meeting up again with the evil Father Keller and Nick Morelli from the first book makes for an startling surprise ending. While Maggie is as vulnerable as she is strong, sparks continue to fly in her relationship with Nick. Looking forward to the next book to see what the future holds for Maggie and Nick.
Meet FBI agent Maggie O'Dell. Someone is killing priests, and Maggie must profile who that could be. A internet game that is popular among victims of abuse by priest is a lead. A Necessary Evil is that Maggie must accept the help of an abuser to sold the case.
Good read. Well written.
very suspenseful book
FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell is called in to profile the murder of a priest. Good story, interesting (and somewhat unexpected) ending, and some interesting characters.
A new author to me, and a repeater. Very good plot and character development. Easy to empathize with the main characters. You'll enjoy this one.
Great book! I love the Maggie O'Dell series and I think this was the best one.
Evil,murder,and suspense. great read.
Good book, not as great as A Perfect Evil. The ending will leave you with your mouth agape and a chuckle.
A bargain with evil to save the innocent. But can Maggie O'Dell do it?
While her partner is on vacation, FBI Profile Maggie O'Dell gets involved in two high profile cases. There is a serial killer in Washington, D.C. He kills young women and cuts off their heads. The heads are left in public places; their bodies have not been found. Unknown to Maggie, her best friend, Dr. Gwen Patterson, is receiving notes from the killer. She believes one of her patients is the killer. Her loved ones have been threatened if she goes to the police.
Just when another head has been discovered, Maggie is sent to Nebraska on another case. Catholic priests are being murdered. Each of the murdered priests has had rumors of sexual abuse attached to their names. As the investigation heads up, Maggie is contacted by Father Michael Keller, a priest she believes murdered two young boys four years ago. Maggie must put her suspicions aside and accept his help in order to solve this case.
This is a fast moving addition to Alex Kava's series. I liked both mysteries, but thought the identity of the villains was very easy to figure out. I liked the addition of Detective Pakula. He seemed like a good detective that didn't have a problem with getting help from the FBI. I'm just sorry we didn't get to see Maggie's partner, R.J. Tully, in this book. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Someone is killing priests in a cold, calculated manner. When a monsignor is found knifed to death in a Nebraska airport restroom, FBI special agent Maggie O'Dell is called in to profile the ritualistic murder of a priest, the latest in a series of killings. Maggie soon discovers a disturbing Internet game that's popular among victims of abuse by Catholic priests. With this first real lead in the investigation she wonders if the group has turned cyberspace justice into reality. Then Maggie gets a second lead - one that leaves her stunned.
For the past four years she has been obsessed with finding Father Michael Keller, whose brutal acts against children continue to haunt her. Now, it seems, he has become a target. When Keller offers to help Maggie solve the ritual killings in exchange for protection, she decides to ally herself with the elusive child killer, stepping into a world of malevolence from which she may not returned unscathed.
Maggie knows the bargain is a necessary evil.... one that may be made in blood.....
