A solid set of stories... The basic theme seemed to be that of uploaded intelligences and the coming singularity; this seems to be a popular meme in the early 2000s.

The non-fiction portions were... interesting... as the 9/11 attacks happened in the middle while they were being written. So there's a bit of (understandable) hand-wringing underlying the resulting text.
